The following rules and regulations apply to anyone using the pool and its surrounding areas. These are to provide guidance for the lifeguards and others in authority. However, lifeguards and others in authority may use their discretion in dealing with any situation that they deem unsafe or inappropriate.
Any individual violating these rules and regulations or any reasonable instruction from a lifeguard or person in authority will be subject to disciplinary action. Disciplinary action may include temporary removal from the pool, immediate expulsion from the pool and Community Center area or further disciplinary action as determined by the Board of Directors as provided in the CC&Rs.
Lifeguards are expected to enforce these rules and regulations and are permitted to call law enforcement authorities if their instructions are ignored or to request assistance in dealing with any unsafe or unusual situation.
GUARDS
Lifeguards will have a proper current certification. Lifeguards will be briefed on their responsibilities before swim season begins
and periodically during the season. Whistles will be worn while on duty. Appropriate suits, identifying them as guards, will be worn.
No street clothes while on duty. Guards will receive a copy of the pool rules. Guards will pay close attention to all activity in and
around the pool. Guards have authority to enforce pool rules, remove anyone from the pool who violates the rules or is creating an
unsafe situation, close the pool or parts of the pool if they believe an unsafe situation exists or call law enforcement authorities
for assistance.
STAFFING
Two qualified lifeguards shall normally be on duty. Exceptions, to be generally made during periods of low usage, can be approved by the Chairman of the Pool Committee, the President of LVHA, the Board liaison person to the Committee, or the Head Lifeguard if none of the aforementioned individuals are available.
BAD WEATHER
The pool will close immediately if there is thunder or lightning or, if in the opinion of a lifeguard or other person in authority,
an unsafe condition exists.
ADULT SWIM PERIODS
Adult swim periods shall be for 15 to 20 minutes on the hour, starting the second hour the pool is open. This will be left to the discretion of the guards on duty and be based on the number of adults or children in the pool area at the time. The Board may also designate other periods for exclusive adult swimming. No children (under the age of sixteen) shall be allowed in the pool during adult swim even if there are no adults in the pool. Apart from giving adults an opportunity to use the pool, the intent of this policy is to provide periods of rest for the children. At the discretion of the lifeguards, adults may bring small children into the pool during adult swim provided they are physically held and do not interfere with adults in the pool.
LAP SWIMMING
Two lanes will normally be available for lap swimming during regular pool hours. Circular swimming is required if there is more than
one swimmer in a lane. Swimmers should be aware that the lap lanes cannot be reserved for exclusive use but must be shared. A lap lane
may be used for swim lessons by the swim team coaches up to 2 pm, however, lap swimmers will take priority over lessons in the event
of a conflict. While lap lanes are intended to be used primarily by adults sixteen years of age or older, accomplished swimmers younger
than sixteen may use the lap lanes provided they do not interfere with adult swimmers. As guidance for this policy, if there are four
or more lap swimmers in a lane, no additional swimmer under the age of sixteen will be permitted in that lane.
SOBRIETY
Intoxicated persons shall not be allowed in the pool or park area. Any person in authority may call law enforcement authorities for
assistance in dealing with an intoxicated person.
POOL PARTIES FOR UPPER LUCAS VALLEY SCHOOLS
Use of the pool for third grade and above pool parties shall be permitted provided the party time does not conflict with the normal pool schedule, appropriate payment is received for the pool set up, a minimum of two lifeguards are arranged by the school, the entire pool area including bathrooms are cleaned subsequent to the party, and the wading pool is closed during the party. It is preferable that an LVHA homeowner be a liaison with the school for any pool party.
POOL RENTAL
The price for pool rental, whether for school or parties, will be determined by the Board with the recommendation of the Business Manager.
Pool rental will not be approved during normal pool hours. Those renting the pool will be responsible for obtaining lifeguards, the
behavior of the participants and pool clean up. Any homeowner planning a small party during normal pool hours that intends to invite
more than four guests must schedule the event through the Business Manager. The homeowner may be assessed a charge, as determined by
the Business Manager, if an additional lifeguard or other expense is anticipated.
WADING POOL USE
The wading pool will be open during regular swim times. The maximum age is six years of age. Each child must be supervised by a parent
or authorized person fourteen years or older. The wading pool is closed during swim team practice and swim meets.
GUESTS
Homeowners may bring up to four guests per visit per household to the pool. A member of the homeowner’s family must be present with
the guests.
HOUSE SITTERS
Homeowners may authorize the use of the pool by a house sitter during the homeowner’s absence. The homeowner must submit the name of
the house sitter(s) and the period of their absence in writing to the Business Manager.
BABYSITTERS
A baby sitter, not a member of an LVHA family, is permitted to use the pool while watching homeowners’ children. No notification is
required.
HOUSE GUESTS
House guests, up to a limit of four, will be permitted use of the pool not to exceed four weeks. Homeowners should submit the names
of any house guests to the Business Manager to include the period of their visit. The homeowner need not accompany house guests while
at the pool. House guests may not bring their own guests to the pool.
AGE
No children under the age of ten (except nine year olds who pass a lifeguard administered swim test) will be permitted
in the pool without a responsible person (age fourteen or older) in attendance.
